For 33,378 records in the database, administrative support areas, candidate toponyms, non-toponymic place descriptions, geographic proximity, human-condition terms, derived interfaces, display anchors, and provenance are kept as separate fields. A representative point is never treated as an event location; prefecture and municipality polygons are held as support areas. For the 1,231 records assigned municipality support, the support area shrinks by a median of 97.5% relative to prefecture support. This is the basis for the yōkai map overlaid on terrain and water systems.
