A system for experiencing scenes from folklore in XR. Imagery of a tale is layered onto old maps of the place where it was told, so that the visitor learns the tale bodily by sensing a presence in the dark. At venues it is shown both as a projection and through a VR headset (Meta Quest 3).
The first subject is the “Mujina” of Kii-no-kuni-zaka in Akasaka, Tokyo — the tale, also told by Lafcadio Hearn in Kwaidan, of a traveller who speaks to a weeping woman on a night road and finds she has no face. Exhibited together with the apparatus and the yōkai map at TSUKUBA CONNÉCT, TOKYO NODE XR HACKATHON, XR Meetup Aichi, and XR Kaigi.
